Walking the Streets

I have the day off from work and school today, so I'm writing to you from the paradise of warmth that is my bed. Needless to say, this won't be an outfit post.

Lately I've been somewhat obsessed with Israeli street style blog The Streets Walker and today I spent a while clicking through the archives. I generally love all the photos that she takes, but there's something about the ones in Israel in particular that really piques my interest. It's something about how effortless all the people look, as if they just got dressed in whatever felt right at the time and it turned out to be amazingly stylish. The fashion sense seems very personal and timeless, not as dominated by trends the way it is in so many places. Also, is it just me or do Israeli women have the most gorgeous hair ever? I have wavy hair and it doesn't ever look as awesome as these girls' even right after I leave the salon!

One Off

Although I have yet to see any pre-fall collections that have sent me into one of those head-over-heels, all in a tizzy, balmain-ss09-esque fashion frenzies, this photo of Jenny Sinkaberg for Valentino definitely has something going on that I think I could get down with...

Today I dragged my boyfriend out onto the fire escape where we proceeded to have a brief and self-conscious photo shoot. Imagining my neighbors laughing at me from behind their venetian blinds was definitely a bit inhibiting, but I assume (from reading other people's blogs) that eventually I will pose with impunity wherever I please. For now, I offer you the following photos.

The main event is obviously (I think) the printed dress I picked up from H&M the other day. I'm wearing it with thrifted brown boots and a navy blazer from the boys section of Value Village (anyone who skips the kids section at thrift stores is seriously missing out) and with this resplendently faux-gold necklace form forever 21 that toes the line between tacky and amazing. Tried doing a side braid thing with my hair, but I'm not sure how I feel about it...definitely something to play with more.

First!

My very first outfit post! I spend a ton of time browsing fashion blogs and have been working on gathering up the nerve to start my own, so here goes...

When I bought this dress I thought that it would be great for spring and summer, but of course I couldn't wait. And there's something I really like about a flash of color in the midst of all the blacks and browns of winter. This dress is somehow simultaneously edge and delicate because of the contrast between the sheer chiffon and the crazy fuchsia color. And get prepared to see a lot more of these lace-up zodiac boots...I recently bought them on e-bay and I am super obsessed!

PS

This photo of Ashley Olsen (via Olsens Anonymous) is ridiculous and amazing all rolled up into one...

More than anything I think I would like to be one of these wonderful, languorous models laying around Matisse's studio wearing exotic silk and jewels...
